Kristen Hynes MSW, RSW
My name is Kristen and I am a registered social worker with both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in social work from Memorial University. I have been practicing social work for nearly 15 years and am eternally grateful for the work I am able to do, and the relationships I have been able to form with the folx I work alongside.
I have worked in diverse practice areas which have provided me with the knowledge, skills and compassion needed to create meaningful, therapeutic relationships with people. I believe in the value of showing up as my genuine self in sessions with you. My approach is client-centered; I bring a variety of tools to the table, and I believe that you do as well, and our work together will be collaborative and goal driven.
My approach is truly eclectic in that I believe there is no such thing as one-size-fits all in a therapeutic relationship. I am trained in many theoretical approaches including CBT, DBT, Solution Focused, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Brief Interventions. I believe that each person must be considered in the context of their environment and that sometimes there are systemic and environmental factors to consider. I believe each person is doing the best they can in any given moment.
I have experience in working alongside folx who have mental health issues and mental illnesses including depression, anxiety, personality disorders and suicidal ideation, as well as people experiencing relationship difficulties, environmental stress, work stress, addictions concerns, parenting concerns, difficult transitions, and those wishing to improve their overall wellbeing. If you're interested in working together, you can book through our website, or you can reach out to me directly via email at Kristen@powercounselling.net.
